While this film is ostensibly about Iris Murdoch, it seems she has been chosen more as a vehicle to make a film about Alzheimers than to properly explore her life. She is noted at one point in the film as the eminent writer of her time and yet all we get about her in this film is that she was a promiscuous free-spirit who died from Alzheimers. Excellent acting, sad strings, little about the writer Iris Murdoch.

When the life of the mind is the life,how do you manage the mind's collapse? Moving portrayal of dementia and its impact on those close to the sufferer. Broadbent and Dench in perfect harmony, with Winslet a close second.What's with all the swimming? Get a house-keeper.
