A spoof on James Bond. It’s 1955 and after a fellow agent and close friend disappears, secret agent Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath, a.k.a. OSS 117, is ordered to take his place at the head of a poultry firm in Cairo, his cover while he is busy foiling Nazis, quelling rebellion, and bedding beauties.
Esta película no está presentándose ahora en MUBI, pero otras 30 increíbles películas sí lo están. Mira que está en cartelera
The veal's not just excellent, it's spoof-tastic! Dujardin gives OSS 117 such grandiloquence and swinging dance moves that it's hard not to be charmed. If you allow yourself to give in to it, the humor builds to a hard boil. Fun.
It's indeed very funny, but at times I couldn't stand the sexism, orientalism and general ignorace of the white, imperialist character. I understand it's a satire, but I can't reconcile it. For me, it's much more problematic. Albeit, Dujardin is a true performer. One cannot help but appreciate his performance, which is always great. I want to see more with him, maybe with less problematic themes next time.
Archer live-action film before Archer was even a thing (no wonder the inspiration for it came from OSS 117). Yes, at times it is overwhelmingly sexist and even racist, but that ultimately works for its own advantage when exposing the stupidity of its main character. Jean Dujardin is a stud.
I think I prefer this to THE ARTIST. Just as strong a handle on the period film vocabulary and another charming and funny turn by Jean Dujardin. I prefer OSS 117's lack of pretension and effortless charm.
6.3/10 "OSS 117: CAIRO, NEST OF SPIES shows Hazanavicius’ competence in his craftsmanship, but whether one will find it intoxicating or fatuous squarely depends on your Gallic humor quotient."

Tolerable spy spoof with a few weak chuckles - the best gag being a flag reveal. Some fast dialogue delivery with subtle nuances I'm sure to have missed, but an utterly incompetent and ignorant spy isn't anything new and certainly does not go anywhere different. The mumba dance and oud performance rarely pushes the comedy, and after such a fantastic performace in The Artist I am left disappointed by the leads.
This movie is soooooo fucking stupid , IN A GOOD WAY . I think that Jean Dujardin is one of the best James bond , and he's not even in the Bond franchise ! "j'aurais dû m'en douter, tu n'es pas seulement un lâche, tu es un traitre... comme ta petite taille le lassait deviner"
