Kidô keisatsu patorebâ: Gekijô-ban

Mamoru Oshii Japón, 1989

nrh's rating of the film Patlabor: The Movie

Far different from its more famous follow up, the first PATLABOR is one of the great visions of the future seen by its working class, and a stealth appreciation of urban architecture in flux. Oshii brings a decidedly unique rhythm to his animation projects, one that relies I think on a push pull between stasis and small, even underplayed movement; pianistic where most anime directors of his generation go percussive.
