A remarkably poignant narration of a family’s story told through the cinematic device of five individual days spanning 15 years. What follows is an elegiac unfolding of the closest of personal relationships with all the human complexities of parenthood, siblinghood and painful coming of age.

I really really liked this. Not a masterpiece that will leave a trace in the history of cinema, yet it manages to achieve exactly what it aims for, a life-sized representation of the expectations of life in French culture.
The fact that it is actually unachievable for the great majority of my generation to achieve this model, makes the whole experience bitter-sweet.,
Opens with real verve and energy thanks to an excellent soundtrack and editing in the title sequence and early scenes. So I was a bit disappointed that after these initial positive impressions it didn't develop into something more unusual or arresting. That said, it still works as a heart-warming and affectionate portrayal of family bonds, tribulations, celebrations and loss. Sentimental and charming.
A rich, deep, and well-made film. Plenty of detail and care. A moving portrayal of really quite ordinary family life. Although fairly 'ordinary' throughout, there is a good number of exquisite scenes along the way.
