The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Dirigida por Guy Ritchie
The script keeps tripping over wrong-for-the-era expressions, and the plot is still a variation on the ‘Kreplachistan nuclear warhead’ gambit parodied in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997). After a pretty good all-terrain vehicle chase, it’s a comedown that the climax depends on the hero keeping the villain talking on the phone so that someone else can blow her out of hte water with a missile.

Technically, this is another of [Ritchie’s] caper movies, but it’s sliced thin. He and his editor, James Herbert, know when to cut both for comedy and for cool. Everything about U.N.C.L.E. is relaxed and flagrantly posh, including the villainy, largely represented by Elizabeth Debicki, a lithe blonde from Australia who can wear a dress without coming off as a mannequin. The clothes seem to empower the acting. The movies should be forcing her, instead of Vikander, on us.
