Thesis statement: there is no escaping the entropy of sex. WET WOMAN IN THE WIND is cute, funny, and smart. Sexy, sure. It gleefully degenerates in the best way possible. Our hero has isolated himself to fend against the onslaught of womankind and his own glands. Nothing doing. From a wonderful opening the film develops leisurely, though in antic screwball mode, only to very suddenly go judiciously bananas. Yay!
So much tension & aggression, didn't know how to feel about it at first. It makes me really mad that I actually quite like it???????? Btw I watched this on the train and had to turn my screen brightness all the way down lol
Lesson 1) sex should never be filmed as cute, unless it's a cheerleader movie.
Lesson 2) study the good attributes of classic pinku and follow them.
Lesson 3) merely showing tits, even good tits, isn't enough in simulated coitus--work harder!
Lesson 4) no Pinku film deserves a sound track which seems lifted from an American 70's cop series.
Lesson 5) Don't advertise a "more modern" Pinku when it's a satire of Pinku
Never knew "Roman Porno" or "Japanese Pink" films until now. Thanks, MUBI... I think? I can see what they are going for, but the sad thing is that this could be an interesting film - maybe even "good" - if not for the lapse into soft porn at the very end. Filmed capably and has an interesting story to keep it moving. But it spends its energy on the humpy-bumpy rather than its narrative and ends up being just so-so.
This film starts quite strong and the plot actually has some potential, with a bit of effort it could be an interesting film on its own. The humour works quite well (a lot of it is specific to the Japanese culture). As the events unfold the film progressively shifts towards a rather uninspiring soft porn feast. Not bad at all for what it is. If you're a fan of the genre then you should definitely give it a try.
