Whilst I may have found another human-being willing to tolerate me for the rest of her life, I still have a profound appreciation for the fact that, despite all the disappointments and heart-ache I’ve endured as a fan of anime, those movies, series and OVAs can’t break-up with me. They’re stuck with me as their ardent admirer, occasional detractor, nag, obsessive and life partner – for better or worse.
This list is more-or-less a favourites list, plus a partial “To Watch” list and, as such, is heavily skewed in favour of sci-fi & fantasy anime (especially that of the late 80s and early 90s). Even those anime on this list that are kinda dumb and cheesy ( TWILIGHT OF THE DARK MASTER ) or exploitative and sexist ( WICKED CITY ) or muddled and over-ambitious ( NEO TOKYO ) or terribly disappointing ( REDLINE ) or downright horrifying ( UROTSUKIDOJI ) are none-the-less notable examples of this multi-faceted art-form as it has existed in Japan.
