Erected in Belgrade in 1969, the Hotel Jugoslavija was a mythical place. The biggest hotel of the Balkans, it stood as both a symbol and a witness to the different moments that shaped the country: from Tito’s Yugoslavia to Milosevic’s Serbia; from socialism to corrupted economic liberalism.

Shot on Super-16mm, this essay-film interweaves the personal with the political with singular prowess. Exploring post-Yugoslavia’s history through one of its iconic buildings—seen in its past splendor and its present squalor—it reflects on the existence, and disappearance, of a collective identity.
