Our take

One could wonder if the Spanish Civil War has ever been depicted with such virulent provocation and insurrectionist verve! Fernando Arrabal, in exile in France, filmed a love story amidst the chaos of war with baroque and surrealist flourishes, and with it condemned the cruel horrors of Franquism.
