Ratings & Reviews

  1. Wee Hunk's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

This movie could be accused of information overload. There's just an awful lot to take in and process. Not all information is relevant. Haneke has control of the TV remote, and he can't stop changing channels. It's less about trying to form a judgement and more about being a witness.

  2. Adam GR's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

Exercising voyeurism. I've always been a fan of short chapters. I love Haneke's self-restriction of camera movement. Terrific moments crafted. The suspense builds. Code Unknown's little brother.

  3. Richmond Hill's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

A series of nihilistic nails searching for a hammer. The crude equation of multiple compositions in the shape game as played by the killer with his later chance confluence with strangers, sums up the lazy metaphors and allusions of this film with Haneke's wagging finger at dislocation in a media-saturated society acting as a too-obvious frame. No hope is presented, just grinding continuation of dead-eyed horror.

  5. skrt's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  6. FISCHER's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  9. Joel's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

Lays the foudation for future films like Code Unknown, intersection as break down. I think this was my favourite of Hanake's Glacial trilogy and really embodies this era in eastern European cinema.

  10. wiwitaek's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

First, Funny Games, both of them and then The Piano Teacher, The Seventh Continent, and The White Ribbon. And now this movie, is it save that I say Michael Haneke is one of many of my favorite filmmaker? He never fail to make me cringe in a good way.

  11. Nelson Núñez's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  12. Egoisms's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

A meditation on the triviality of human life. Haneke purposely lulls the viewer to sleep with an interminable series of snapshots of ordinary human life. However, we're never stirred to feel anything deeply. The camera is always still, observant, emotionless, objective; add news stories about war, and by the time the mass murder occurs we are far beyond being able to care about such things.

  14. sfasatura's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  15. Makinist Klitorist's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  17. Korhan Kalabalık's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  18. M.Mustafa's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  19. ikkini's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  20. ari_jay's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

Cold, clinical, precise; with an unsettlingly topical punch of violence (a mass shooting that's impulsive, motiveless & unstoppable). Presented in fragments, the film does require some patience—despite the intoxicating effect of the constant interruption devoid of conclusion. Haneke continues his exploration of durational effects of long takes & escalating levels of audience self-awareness (ex. ping pong scene).

  21. Faruk Gologlu's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

I find Haneke's cinematic style (esp. early films) very similar to Bernhard's prose. From fragments like the lengthy ping-pong sequence or apparently irrelevant dialogues we get to understand the characters. Repetition also plays a role in both. Just like the other two in trilogy - an excellent film.

  22. Kieran Charnock's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

If you are able to give your full curiosity to this film, you will be rewarded. I believe that Haneke's filmmaking is so meticulous that no matter what the final cut presents - the gold IS in there. Always. If you don't see it at first, it is because you are not giving the film the attention it deserves.

  23. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

  24. yuriwalker's rating of the film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

Seumur idup baru sekali ini nonton film yang cut to black-nya bikin kondisi kamar kayak mati lampu (hanya berefek buat yang nonton dalem kamar gelap2an malem2 wih kalo ada pacar yang nemenin nonton, filmnya belum habis malah berzina? Oh Tuhan jauhkan hamba dari berbagai macam perbuatan maksiat, eh tapi kalau Tuhan benci maksiat, kenapa malah menciptakan manusia dengan hawa nafsu untuk bermaksiat? Lah kok melenceng?)
