Ratings & Reviews

  1. T.J. Royal's rating of the film 99 Homes

A bit heavy on the jargon, and the close attention required to grasp the financial scheme enabling Rick Carver Realty works against it. But the compassion for the evictees and their reality of getting tossed out onto the street was, in practically every scene, an effective contrast to the impersonal, legally-backed greed allowed to take place. Good stuff, and probably better a second time 'round.

  2. aliasgenius's rating of the film 99 Homes

    Compelling & eye-opening. 4/5

  3. Fabio Di Felice's rating of the film 99 Homes

  4. Steve G.'s rating of the film 99 Homes

  5. J. O.'s rating of the film 99 Homes

There's some great filmmaking in here, at least at times. Mostly in the crafting of tense, frustrating, overwhelming scenes where the hopeful, desperate expressions of the about-to-be-evicted melt away into pained scowls. There were some great performances going on but, ultimately, as a whole the film isn't great. Evil people are over-the-top evil, and so nothing gets resolved (or even truly commented on). Who cares?

  6. Michael Peer's rating of the film 99 Homes

A faustian tale that becomes too theatrical for it's own good. Still, 99 Homes is a powerful examination of the ugly side of the housing market crash and those who are benefiting from it. Michael Shannon puts in one of his very best performances. Garfield is great but too damn good looking to pull off his character - similar to several Kiera Knightly roles. The film has a tight pace and a strong subject matter.

  8. Federico Di Folco's rating of the film 99 Homes

Lavoro a metà,cmq discreto.

  9. Amandio Filipe Moura's rating of the film 99 Homes

Bahrani delivers a provocative moral play

  10. Inês Moreira Santos's rating of the film 99 Homes

  11. Ayinde Anderson's rating of the film 99 Homes

Wasn't a fan of this photographically, but the story and acing really carried it through to the end

  13. Draughtsman Without Contract's rating of the film 99 Homes

The moral turpitude oozes from every orifice.

Gives you a hint why Trump happened. 3 1/2

  15. Ana Sousa's rating of the film 99 Homes

The eviction scenes were some of the hardest things I've had to watch. Garfield has matured into an outstanding actor. Shannon's role fits him perfectly with that badass look of his. 99 Homes shows greediness, what we do in times of despair to save the ones we love and how it turns against us.

  16. Jeremy Ashlyn's rating of the film 99 Homes

  17. Mario Tomchev's rating of the film 99 Homes

very well acted; that dramatic finale was a bit of a typical and unnecessary stretch

  18. SBERB's rating of the film 99 Homes

con Shannon è sempre una stella in più

  19. Daniel Grudsky's rating of the film 99 Homes

Mi actor favorito me sigue dando la razón, Michael Shannon porsupuesto. Una interesante visión de un período a que los habitantes de un gigante mundial no estaban acostumbrados.

  20. Matt Richards's rating of the film 99 Homes

Shannon again proves he's one of the most unique actors currently working in America. This is a dark and uncomforatable story set at the intersection of desperation and greed within the pulsing heart of capitalism. Bahrani pulls no punches in his unflinching portrayal of the rapidly expanding inequality in modern America. 4 stars.

  21. -REM-'s rating of the film 99 Homes

  22. Polyglot's rating of the film 99 Homes

Wasn't buying Andrew Garfield's southern accent. Sorry, for the pun. :/

  23. vordven's rating of the film 99 Homes

  24. smndvdcl's rating of the film 99 Homes

An overall message about the regressive effect of a neoliberal doctrine on the housing market as a pre-cursor to the 2008 financial collapse is potent, but the arc of the narrative lacks the nuanced intensity that could hook its audience into the fray.
