  3. letters never sent's rating of the film A Cottage on Dartmoor

The cinematography here is quite stunning. It's one of those films better seen than explained. Prepare to be moved to tears though.

  4. alice's rating of the film A Cottage on Dartmoor

this is canon. incredibly intense. needless to say, i'm' glad i wore no eye makeup, because i'd have the face of a chimney sweep now.

  8. ZYNAB's rating of the film A Cottage on Dartmoor

Underrated and very beautiful, sparse film...Uno Henning has one of the most sublty expressive faces I've seen in silents, and the throat-cutting scene with that one red frame like a drop of blood in the middle...absolutely perfect

  9. Nancarrow's rating of the film A Cottage on Dartmoor

An assured work, anchored by a great beginning and topped off with an equally impressive ending.

  10. H. Jackson's rating of the film A Cottage on Dartmoor

Unexpectedly superb. A touching and tense film about obsessive, unrequited love. A very early film from a man who's work I will now endeavour to explore, Asquith seems comfortable taking the viewer from feeling to feeling - from the heartbreak one feels as our hero(?) watches the object of his admiration with another man, to the terror of watching him shave said man. Top stuff.
