13-year-old Bartek tries desperately to hide the fact that his father beats him. Lonely and with no support from his mother or his school, tyrannised by his soccer coach, the boy finds his only friend in an old dying stray dog.

I'd say A MAN THING is heart-breaking, but that old chestnut seems to connote a manipulative film which pulls on your sentiment for easy effect. This isn't that at all, much grittier, but shoestring budget gritty. Makes you remember those days when a stray dog is way friendlier than anyone you're going to meet that day, the next day, maybe ever. Slawomir Fabicki deserves some kudos.
