    The Gwangju massacre is really a back drop for this film, it's more about people than it is horrific events. Though the rape scenes were erratic and seemed to deviate from the Gwangju focus, I felt they were necessary in depicting how complex Moon Sung-keun's character is. The character needed to do something horrendously unforgivable for his intricacies to be properly conveyed. Some see its value, some don't

    there are rape scenes that are really unnecessary that establishes that this is a "masculine" movie, regardless of its female protagonist. the coverage of the gwangju massacre is well done in that it doesn't attempt to soften the pain, but the treatment of the little girl keeps bothering me. and jang sun-woo's female characters aren't exactly a strength..i loved the cartoons and the honesty but......
