With a wonderful mise-en-scène and cinematography (mostly gorgeous wide-angle long shots), this amusing collection of several vignettes can be pretty ironic and surreal as they show that life is made up not only of gracious, strange and prosaic moments but also of pain and vicious deeds. http://www.filmotrope.com
Another example for Roy Anderssons's laconic art of film making. Each one of his framed, static single shot epidodes - even the shortest one - contains a narration in itself. The whole film is a sophisticated network of bizarre and grim stories somehow connected to each other by certain words, actors or leitmotifs (like the dove: visible only in the first shot but acoustically present in many other scenes).
Weird, exceedingly intelligent & entertaining with interesting scene-structure. Countless extra-like characters in front of artificial scenery as if these are paintings. Personal favorite figure: King Karl XII.
I know the cinematography was meant to be dull: the sandy palette of colour, the static scene blocking and long shots. But it was SO dull, I fell asleep. Not to mention didn't feel compelled to have a single chuckle. I normally like films to weird me out and be one-of-a-kind freaks of nature, I can deal with slow films, but this was just.. excruciatingly BORING
