Having the real Bob play himself seems not only practical, but effectively meta and appropriate. Just as he transformed James Bowen's life, Bob transforms the adaptation: visibly bestowing his trust to "fake James" and etching his affable presence onto the events unfolding onscreen. Bowen's candor is likewise expressed simply and directly. The enlightenments are small but true.
Watching this movie was just simply a delight, although definitely dark and edgy at times to highlight James' difficulties of passing through the trials of drug addiction. Bob the Cat is incredible as himself, and is absolutely adorable the whole ride through. The story rewards us with a truly touching animal/human relationship that will have most smiling at each and every cute moment. Definitely see this one!
