Ratings & Reviews

  1. Jacques de Villiers's rating of the film A Thousand Suns

I really wanted to like this. But the movie feels like a rough cut on the way to being a fascinating and moving reflection on the human and cinematic legacy of Touki Bouki. There are some nice moments (especially near the end), but Diop's filmmaking is neither audacious enough nor sufficiently thought through to be more than a curio in her uncle's shadow. Poor lighting at certain crucial moments is also frustrating.

  2. kartina obskura's rating of the film A Thousand Suns

to be honest, i liked this better than touki bouki

  3. El Biffo's rating of the film A Thousand Suns

Excellent film by a budding talent. Keep your eyes on her, I expect more great work from Mati Diop, both as an actor and a film maker. 4.5 stars!

  4. José Neves's rating of the film A Thousand Suns

The mere documental look is sometimes exceeded in some evocative moments, when it's used the amplitude of geographical areas with the amplitude of a memorial imaginary construction, such as the frame of the ocean with Martini's song, "Plaisir d'Amour", the same used in the matrix upon which this film is constituted, the magnificent "Touki Bouki" by Mambéty. In and off towards an imaginary remembrance.

  5. Samuel Andrade's rating of the film A Thousand Suns

    ★★★★★ faded star.

  6. Ivó da Silva's rating of the film A Thousand Suns

'Mille soleils' continue l'histoire de Touki Bouki, réalisé par Diop Mambéty en 1972 et conte l'histoire des acteurs, de ce qu'ils sont devenus. Plein de nostalgie, ce film se situe entre documentaire et fiction et comporte quelques scènes vraiment très belles; dont une où l'acteur de Touki Bouki se rend compte que les enfants ne le croient pas lorsqu'il dit qu'il en est l'acteur principal. Très émouvant. 4/5.
