Ratings & Reviews

  1. angelicidea's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

A beautifully crafted film with striking images showing the dark underbelly of China's rampant capitalism. However, its unrelenting bleakness makes it unbalanced.

  2. Dada Kubin's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

Wow. This movie hits you like a block of concrete. In each episode the main characters are searching for something, be it revenge and recognition or love or money, but always the search ends up with violence, the defining feature of the world these people are living in. Hardcore critical realism.

  3. AugusteB's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

Odd mix of stories. I tried hard to like it, but I failed.

  4. Luís F Matos's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

  5. Alvise Narduzzi's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

  6. Pierre.F's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

4 fils narratifs, de très beaux plans, et une manière de peindre la réalité de la Chine avec acuité. 4 individus qui se révoltent contre leurs conditions et qui n'échappent pas à la violence.

  7. Diogo CF's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

  8. Gonçalo Rosas's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

8 - Less a film about a nation smothering its citizens than one about said citizens lashing back like people realistically would; in wild, enraged thrashings destined to cause more harm than good. There is very little catharsis here, and even fewer prospects for a better tomorrow.

  9. Paolo Simeone's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

  10. FISCHER's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

  11. ermete polpette's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

6 solo perchè, e questo lo capisce solo chi ha visto il film, è ambientato in cina

  12. Amandio Filipe Moura's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

A chilling look at China's lost soul

  13. stilladvance's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

brilliant images, surreal humour, a great moral core. starts off in blazing, cathartic fashion but the anthology format jolts the flow - these characters and stories are drawn with complexity and deserve more time. western critics seemed all too happy to see this as a critique of modern china, but there is warmth and humanity here too. will also make you want to eat apples on a bike with a coat like dahai's.

  14. Magda Magdy's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

    Fifth generation of Chinese filmmakers.

  15. Il secondo maestro del revolver's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

  16. Ashley Spendlove's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

Jia takes a portmanteau approach and depicts the dehumanising shadow of China's recent socio-economic transformation. He does so with stylistic élan, mixing up genres and providing a vivid canvas of urban and rural landscapes. This is a world that breeds sociopathy and where the innocent find themselves compelled towards acts of violence and despair. The entire piece is propelled by a sense of urgent rage.

  17. Nadin's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

Nope, this is not a good film. It rarely happens, but I actually turned it off, because it wasn't convincing at all. Bad actors, unconvincing acting and surprisingly terrible for Jia. Too much mainstream perhaps.

  18. DrFirestone's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

Interesting study and reflection on modern China. Powerful and brutal at times, but unfortunately so is the reality... I really enjoyed the story, characters and how subtly they connect while each of them is very different and brings new elements to the experience. The acting is minimalistic, so is camerawork which seems to be a good choice, as the film's approach is very down-to-earth and direct. Great!

  19. raggiodisole's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

Sombre and downbeat study of the impact of modern China, concentrating on the ills, the vices, and the disaffection and dislocation that it causes.

  20. Dr. Q's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

A great film. Must watch for anyone who is interested in China. And also for the rest.

  21. SiIencio's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

A neorealist vision of modern China. Underneath its skycrapers and neon lights, real China is a fast-growing giant with feet of clay coming to terms with the devil in the detail of its pact with its capitalist nemesis. Zhangke faces the beast pointing the finger at wide-spread corruption, alienation, nihilism, depravation, inmorality and shows his characters in state of shock, spreading violence as a coping mechanism

  22. Max Seqgar's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

When people simply go PUFF! So humanly universal.

  23. vea's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

great movie. bitter reality and hard life play main factores in story where characters try their best.

  24. Superfrog's rating of the film A Touch of Sin

This was really pretty poor. When discussing enrichment and corruption in China, the semi tarantinoesque option of blood, blood, blood, amera angle for suspense is rather a poor choice. More problematically, fails at making a coherent whole of the little bits.
