This film is outstanding, it just builds up as the story develops. It leaves you with a hole in your stomach, wondering what should've been different, who it is to blame and where everything started to fall apart.
While the second half of the movie was masterfully crafted by director Fernando Coimbra and acted by a powerhouse Leandra Leal, it's first half suffers greatly from an insipid and futile rashomon-style narrative device and some very painful performances by the male cast. The ending is pretty fucking bleak. And pitch perfect.
Intense, with a great performance by Leandra Leal. Fernando Coimbra did a terrific job crafting this suspenseful thriller, and is an impressive talent of contemporary Brazilian cinema. Also appreciated the setting of Rio de Janeiro's Zona Norte, which offers a distinct landscape and atmosphere from Zona Sul, where films are typically shot.
