This grew on me as I watched it and whilst not being an expert on the Czechs treatment of the Germans following WW2 it seems to be fairly accurate and unique in its criticisms of the Czech people and their treatment of these Germans. Will need to re-watch it but a very good film.
The aftermath of WW2 is played out almost completely in an old mansion on the Czech countryside In Frantisek Vlacil's mysterious chamberpiece. As it elegantly unfolds, cultural prejudices and deep longings clash between two individuals who came out of the war from opposite sides and has to share the same space. The unsaid echoes loud in Vlacil's walls of confinements and dictates how visually arresting cinema can be.
