I still find this film gripping after many repeats, great performances (except the token white guy, but come on he is in it for 2 mins @otherReviews) tear jerker throughout everytime
Good, suprising, emotionally breathtaking, lever in expossing moral dilemma. Soviet in shooting style, a bit extra-patriotic at times and better understood with an understanding of Chinese political history. Feels like made for a domestic and maybe even more for a diaspora audience.
A highly absorbing life journey! Extremely culturally & historically interesting! A true gem!
Early on,the amazing recreation of the earthquake, and then the devastating human drama. Added to the absorbing plot is a look at economic and cultural changes in China.
Shoots for tear-jerk melodrama but, with a few exceptions, fails to be as affecting as apparently hoped. Not a bad movie - and well filmed, so it's a good looking movie - but ultimately, rather ordinary. The performances are good with the exception of the one white guy whose delivery is painfully stilted.
Aftershock is a great film, the actors are all fantastic and the story travels in parallel to all the changes that occurred in China from the seventies to nowadays
I can't imagine what this would be like in IMAX. Even if it's just for that particular scene.
