The definition of abominable, except, of course, lovely 27 smt Felicity Jones playing 17, somewhere in south coast with tourist panorama, looking like Isle of Man ad. Horrible. Terrible. Every single thing is just simply, plainly wrong. And that 'creative writing' stuff! You know, that is the root of all those crab in bookshelves emanating from that inner inspiration gas.
First 30 minutes are pretty great. The middle 30 disappointing but probably calling a fantasy of sorts. The last 20 an OK wind down. Not a masterpiece but not the trainwreck the current score seems to indicate. Female lead is pretty impressive in the role am rings true.
I'm not quite sure if it was supposed to be light and funny or deep and though-provoking but am afraid whatever it was creators of it didn't really succeeded to accomplish. Half baked filled with cliches and a shallow sauce of cheap "meaningfulness" poured all over it.
Flashes of genius with its sardonic dialogue. The derogatory undermining of a literary pseud as a 'procrasturbator' is a particularly acerbic portmanteau. However, the character arc, filmmaking nous and narrative development remains fairly rote. Worth a watch if not cinematic golddust.
Painfully flat mixture of coming of age drama and mid life crisis comedy about an aspiring young writer who begins an affair with her bookish best friend's father, a famous writer. One cliche after another, and hampered by an awful script, the film was a lot better when it was called AMERICAN BEAUTY.
