The "Alien" franchise deliver another unique sequel as this is one of the bleakest and most depressing films that I have seen ever made from Hollywood and it should be applauded for it's independent guerrilla style that refuse to follow studio rules at any point. There are few films where the entire supporting cast are a bunch of morons with no redeeming qualities and has fan favorites wiped out after 2 seconds.
2003 Assembly Cut (145min): no viewing of ALIEN3 can be complete without WRECKAGE AND RAGE, de Lauzirika's exhaustive doc on the troubled production. Fincher has matured as a storyteller since BENJAMIN BUTTON, but his legacy will remain as technician. And despite all the studio meddling, the inherent nastiness in ALIEN3 is all him. Thankfully, relief arrives as black humor when Ripley teams up with the prison freaks!
The number 1 mistake from the entire franchise is to make the alien digital. On top of that Alien³ suffers from bad pacing which the production issues are to blame for. This 3rd one still has a lot going for it: Fincher's visual style is excellent and the "mother" theme lifts this film up to standards barely reached by other sci-fi films.
First of all, this is the directorial debut from David Fincher. You can see his trademark for his later movies in this movie. Unfortunately, Alien 3 doesn't have a great storyline. Well, it succeed to continue the story from Aliens. To be honest, I feel bored when this movie showed its drama & made me sleepy. The good thing is, this movie became exciting when it comes to the action sequences. Alien 3 is entertaining!
