Tonally the worst of the first four movies, ALIEN: RESURRECTION is still way more inventive than Fincher's nasty ALIEN3. In fact, there's a perverse joy in seeing the uber-serious Alien universe destroyed by buffoonery—Dan Hedaya is a hoot! The script or its interpretation or both are untenable. But Khondji's cinematography deserves huge praise (if Francis Bacon ever saw this, he'd laugh; but also silently approve).
Although, I give the same three-stars rating, I must say that Alien: Resurrection is slightly better than Alien 3. "Resurrection" is a fun mindless-action, exciting, and highly entertaining movie. This is the best movie in the franchise after Alien and Aliens. Sigourney Weaver still bad-ass like before. Not to mention Winona Ryder as the second heroine. One of the entertaining series in the saga. It's worth to watch!
Ripley has too many one-liners, it becomes cheesy. The supporting characters, with the exception of Winona Ryder's Call, are all very disposable. However this is the nastiest film in terms of gore and violence. It's action-packed and there's never a dull moment despite some silly moments... that shot with Ripley submerging in 'alien matter' was amazing! Anyway, it was fun to re-watch this one too.
