Ratings & Reviews

  1. El Biffo's rating of the film American Madness

Capra recycled many elements of this film years later in It's A Wonderful Life: Good, decent banker(!) believes in the people he loans $$$ to, bank gets ripped off, on the verge of going under, greedy bastards want to ruin him, don't like the way he does business, he contemplates suicide, etc... Big diff here is that there's no angel and our banker-hero's wife is sorta cheating on him.

  2. Diderot's rating of the film American Madness

An early Capra film about how all that's missing from big banks is good old fashioned masculine character. Constance Cummings was a great, under-appreciated actress, demonstrated by the charm she musters for a nothing role like she gets here.

  3. FISCHER's rating of the film American Madness

  4. SpacePirate's rating of the film American Madness

Excellent film. This is the Huston/Capra show, but the supporting cast is great, including Cummings and several actors you prob recognize but dont know their names. Seeing a young Sterling Holloway aka Winnie the Pooh was a particular. What was with the one guy with shaved eyebrow/drawed on with pencil? Weird. Overall, a great depression era flick thats a bit too pro Capitalism at times for my tastes, still 5 stars

  5. Samuel Andrade's rating of the film American Madness

    bankers can drive people crazy.

  6. RoRoRoro's rating of the film American Madness

  7. Dave's rating of the film American Madness

The most underrated of Capra's films, in my opinion, and also among my favorites that he ever directed.
