Starts out strong but runs into a slab of concrete the second Jo's family arrives. The ending completely fails to register emotionally or narratively. One gets the sense that this is two very different movies—Holocaust amnesia/intergenerational music romance—awkwardly cobbled into one product. Still, those first 45 minutes showed promise. 2.5/5.
Marthe Keller shines as Martha, an ageing German woman who has chosen to reject her country after WWII, but slowly learns to forgive and comes out of her seclusion as happiness touches her again. Set in the insolently sunny and gorgeous island of Ibiza which contrasts with Martha's traumatic past. My only criticism would be regarding the music which doesn't rise up to the challenge.
