Ratings & Reviews

  1. Alexander Dunkelberger's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Don’t think I’ve quite seen a documentary like this before. Entirely made up of archival footage and other people’s interviews. May not sound all that unique, but it feels that way. May have something to do with the fascinating subject of Spalding Gray.

  2. Blumes's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

"Are there stories I don't tell? Yes."

  3. AKFilmFan's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Taking the only logical approach, Soderbergh's documentary on Spalding is based entirely from his own monologues & interviews. The secret to how it succeeds is in it's editing, matching the clips together just right so it tells his life story & the spirit of the man himself. While it drops hints of his suicide, Soderbergh wisely omits this, instead celebrating his life as a final monologue of his career.

  4. mjgildea's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

3 1/2 out of 5 stars. All I knew about Spalding Gray before watching this was a Family Guy reference ("You are the Spalding Gray of crap") but by the time it was over I was reduced to tears during the credits sequence. Not exactly a documentary but there's something to be said for hearing the story straight from the horse's mouth. Truly funny stuff.

  5. msmichel's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

A final monoloque from Spalding Gray painstackingly put together and edited by Steven Soderbergh and editor Susan Littenberg. In editing footage from different eras and pieces a coherent narrative is somehow made that sheds some light on the evolution of Gray's style. A straight biopic would be welcome as well but this is a fitting tribute to Gray's legacy.

  6. citizenmilton's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Hope this gets distribution theatrically. Eager to see.

  7. gaffordKINO's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

The story of Spalding Gray as it was meant to be told. By Spalding Gray.

  8. Drew.'s rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

When is this getting released on DVD??

  9. nrh's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Perhaps a masterpiece - a gift to the dead, an act of empathy, a much needed addition to what is too little understood as an important chapter in American theater and literature...

  10. Christopher Taylor's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Soderbergh pays respects to Grey the best way, by letting the man talk. And in his talking a comic and tragic portrait of the man and the artist is weaved.

  11. A47's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Rightly tells the story of Spalding. How much of the truth is revealed, I'm not sure, but this is the only type of film that would do him justice. Can't imagine editing this... I'd go crazy.

  12. Matthew_Lucas's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Steven Soderbergh pays tribute to monologist Spalding Gray after his death using his own words through Gray's monologues and interviews. A semi follow-up to GRAY'S ANATOMY, AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE crafts a fresh, final monologue out of a life's work. Not as singularly passionate as GRAY'S ANATOMY perhaps, but nevertheless a sincere and fitting tribute to an extraordinary talent.

  13. FailedImitator's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Fantastic. Almost as good as SENNA.

  14. Mark Garrett's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

    Doesn't this define indulgence?

  15. wolfmansRazor's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

A fitting tribute to Gray's life and work. Soderbergh's most humane film, in a way.

  16. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

Interesting sampling from the monologues and interviews with the late Spalding Gray assembled by Steven Soderbergh, provides a compelling look at Gray's unique personal insights and philosophies, even if it does often feel like more of a retrospective than a real in-depth biographical film. Still, well worth watching for fans of Gray's work.

  17. Adam Cook's rating of the film And Everything Is Going Fine

    Best use of Chumbawamba ever.
