Ratings & Reviews

  1. Amy Madden's rating of the film Anthropoid

Cillian Murphy is brilliant in this adaption of the true story of the assassination of an SS soldier. Its not his best performance but certainly he played the part very well. The script was the downfall of this film, it wasn't very strong.

  2. J. O.'s rating of the film Anthropoid

You'd think a movie about an unthinkable assassination would be less predictable and generic. Jamie Dornan continues to prove he's a one-note tune, Cillian's trying his best but there's not much to work with. An arduous two hours when you know exactly what's coming around every corner.

  3. jana_om's rating of the film Anthropoid

Watching this after HHhH by Laurent Binet. Pretty cool and not boring. I would like to see a movie based on The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell. Young Ralph Fiennes (yes, that R.F. from Schindler's List!) as Maximilien Aue could be a very interesting character.

  4. melly's rating of the film Anthropoid

Well-shot war thriller about an interesting subject, but unfortunately the movie overall is as stale as they come. The characters and script are particularly cookie-cutter, and moving moments are only moving for their basic shock value (innocents bloodied, heroes tortured, loved ones forced to watch, etc). Shame, as I'm sure the headline actors could have handled something a bit more complex.

  6. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Anthropoid

At one point Cillian's character tells his date that she shouldn't have put on makeup to be so good looking as it will attract attention from the Germans. What is absurd about that is that the movie has a cast of ridiculously good-looking people.

  10. janice.hughes's rating of the film Anthropoid

A remake of an original Czech war film made in 1968, this film follows the true story of how two Czech agents were air dropped into Nevizdy near Prague in 1941 and took on an enormous challenge with horrifying reprisals from the Nazi occupation during the Second World War. Fine performances from Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan and a tough and gripping movie.

  15. Leif Erikson's rating of the film Anthropoid

'Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once.'

  16. Sean Patrick Stevens's rating of the film Anthropoid

Very solid "war movie" about an event that can't end well and I especially liked how the Holocaust is in the background of the events but is approached obliquely.
