  • tinderness's rating of the film As You Are

  • Jasmine Erin's rating of the film As You Are

A tender look at undefined love and friendship in those moments of first-time-feelings-ever teenagehood. Peyrafitte treats his characters with dignity rare to movies packaged for young people but made by adults far removed from the experience. Genre-bending, I imagine this stunning debut becoming a cult classic to the Trump generation in no time at all

  • Mcpeer's rating of the film As You Are

Get used to pronouncing: Miles Joris-Peryrafitte. The 23 year old skateboarding inspiration may be the next Xavier Dolan. The film grabbed me from the first frame and didn't let go. Like Dolan, Peryrafitte applies aspects ratios brilliantly, shooting an anamoric film and placing it within a 1.85 frame, mirroring how his characters don't fit in their worlds. The ending is ambiguous for ambiguous sake. Still wonderful.

was excited to see Amandla but of course the black girl was one dimensional and served only as a plot device

  • Kevin Matthews's rating of the film As You Are

Directed and co-written by Miles Joris-Peyrafitte, this is a decent enough little drama about a turbulent time in the life of three teenagers. The structure makes clear that something bad has happened but holds back more details until the very end, which then comes along as a bit of an anti-climax compared to whatever scenarios viewers may have conjured up in their minds. Script is okay, performances are good.

  • Yvonx S's rating of the film As You Are

This film really stayed with me; painfully sad, even harrowing is not too strong as description. It was wonderfully acted- so naturalistic and the undercurrents are not made obvious until the monsers surge to the surface and take a huge bite out of the viewer. I dreamt of the characters and woke still immersed in their lives. A film of lost innocence, teenage emotions beyond control & adult betrayal on an epic scale.

  • plentynuff's rating of the film As You Are

The good: Sensitively captures so much of what is painful in adolescence. The bad: Reliving so much of what is painful in adolescence. Excellent all except for the melancholy that lingers afterwards.

  • Dan and Val Freeman's rating of the film As You Are

Superb. Excellent story about the turmoils of adolescence which kept us guessing, played and shot really well, great use of score, can see why this won at Sundance. And nice to see Mary Stuart Masterson again and see her on top form. Only criticism is the very end is a little confusing and inconclusive ... but this is a minor criticism of a good piece of work.
