Fantasia '14 Sometimes spooky but in the end uninvolving supernatural thriller that finds a new realtor trying to move a house with a history only to add to the mystery herself with her disappearance. Her sister then begins to investigate but with predictable results. Disappointing coming from McCarthy whose previous film seemed to announce the coming of a new talent.
The cutting between the stories and timelines is not very seamless, which makes it lack a focal point, that thus makes it lack tension. While McCarthy musters up some good ideas within too many false scares, at the same time, his execution lacks meaning and definition, which even makes the final shot a bit of a head-scratcher. As one might get its implication both story and plot wise, it still doesn't feel earned.
