  1. msmichel's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

The story of the literary fraud called 'JT Leroy' is given a first person telling here by its creator Laura Albert. Albert's opportunistic use of HIV, transgenderism and myth baiting even a decade later are still pretty unforgiveable. The 'fame game' of celebrity hangers on when JT was a hot property is a very entertaining side note but giving Albert any sense of artistic redemption is a mistake.

  3. Sean Patrick Stevens's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

Great story but not a great documentary! The participants aren't grilled and instead there are far too many loose ends that they refuse to answer.

  4. traag-1's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

Wouldn't go into the "True crime" category but this doc. had the same appeal and aesthetic as one. I appreciated and respected just how much Laura Albert put her SELF out there for everyone to see.

  5. Valentina Sanchez's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

Courtney Love asking permission to snort a line of coke while on the telephone with JT Leroy - priceless!

  6. orangey's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

fascinating portrayal of the vacuousness of contemporary celebrity culture

  7. HKFanatic's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

It's easy to argue that this documentary is too close to its subject matter, as it only allows us to see these events from Laura Albert's point of view, but what I find most fascinating about "Author" is its inadvertent indictment of early 00's celebrity culture and its sycophant willingness to drop everything and dance at the altar of anyone who projected that elusive quality Hollywood calls 'authenticity.'

  8. Stephane Tanaka's rating of the film Author: The JT LeRoy Story

3.5. Interesting story (true?) and archives
