Ratings & Reviews

  1. Diderot's rating of the film Back Street

One of the great, schmaltzy melodramas, with a perfect Irene Dunne in the starring role of the Back Street Woman who sacrifices her freedom for the pleasure of John Boles, who has a face that walks a fine line between bland and beautiful, just the sort of face that might lead someone to be so stupid.

  3. carlo tagliazucca's rating of the film Back Street

  4. Hugo Poderoso's rating of the film Back Street

The elliptical narrative (and I don't mean only the two big leaps) ignores the usual romantic method, as well as the characters that surround the couple, to focus on the existential consequences of a life devoted to a feeling that destroys the possibility of anything else. Maybe conceived as a cautionary tale, it evolves into something much more bitter: the idea of the unattainability of emotional authenticity.
