Bad Influence is an inspired & excellent Hitchcock-like noir thriller directed by the late great Curtis Hanson. Spader is solid as the meek yuppie protagonist & Rob Lowe gives what is most likely his finest performance as the mysterious & deviant Alex who seduces Spader into an insidious lifestyle of rampant wrongdoing. Although the film loses some bite at the end, it's an admirable & accomplished 90s neo-noir.
Curtis Hanson's and David Koepp's fun, stylish, perverse riff on Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train." Slinky and sleazy, Rob Lowe has never been better than he is portraying the seductive, psychopathic Alex. James Spader plays brilliantly against type as the meek and beaten down Michael. The musical score by Trevor Jones has a feline, alley cat prowl to it. A nasty neo-noir with a striking early 90's music video look.
