Ratings & Reviews

  1. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Barrier

This film is not to be watched directly. It's meant to be playing on your other computer monitor so that you glance at it occasionally. It's not to be taken too seriously. It gets two extra stars for creativity, but then you have to take away one star for continuity. Also you have to watch it more than once to remember your favorite parts. Running around in circles!

  2. Ronja's rating of the film Barrier

not easy to watch. has komeda's music, snow, strange dream- or rather nightmare-like atmosphere and something undeniably true about it. i guess it's one of those films which one has to see more times and in better quality. imagine it in the cinema!

  3. sam's rating of the film Barrier

A delirious expansion/ compression/ confusion of space in this one. Out with the old themes/ forms, in with the new.

  4. T. J. Harman's rating of the film Barrier

Skolimowski distilled his most warped, communism-induced fever dream on screen here. Criterion needs to add this to their catalogue.

  5. εξώτερο Διάστημα's rating of the film Barrier

it's never ending. i've watched it and felt like the end was left aside, still in progress, in hot debate, in an incipient phase of being conceptualized, shyly dabbed at. i watch it again and it still has no end. it refuses it, as if conventional structure and circularity of plot is naive and can be cast off with the natural and necessary gesture of a snake shedding its skin.

  6. Dally's rating of the film Barrier

Easy to say some films are like dreams but this is definitely one of those films. It's elegiac and mesmerizing and the very type of work I think will creep up in my thoughts randomly and wonderfully in coming days.

  7. michal k's rating of the film Barrier

my all time favourite new wave movie. it's mesmerizing, it's beautiful, it makes godard irrelevant. i can't get enough of it. criminally underrated gem.
