A faithful adaptation of Frank Miller's classic graphic novel and this is both its strength and its weakness in that it cannot hope to capture the nuance of the work in its original medium. Cranston's voice is perfect for Gordon but Mackenzie is not a good match for Batman, lacking the required darkness and grit.
3 1/2 out of 5. With Batman: Year One being my favorite Batman story of all time, the animated adaptation was probably handicapped from the start for me. A definite A for effort but there had be better options for Batman's voice casting. And to top it off, they cut my favorite line from the book. ("you're the one -- who tried to shoot the cat --")
