Ratings & Reviews

  1. tubbssw's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

It gets less interesting after the group breaks up and the finger pointing starts but worth it overall. There are some great outdoor location shots in the early part of the documentary.

  2. anthony.dean.gray's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

  3. tintinmugshot's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Don't have a good rhythm (the very opposite is the group), and that kills the doc almost entirely.

  4. paulina's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Worth watch it a piece of good hip-hop music history ;)

  5. raggiodisole's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Nowt special or innovative about this film, what makes it great is the special era in music that it documents, along with the usual love/hate dynamic, peer praise, and some of the best beats in all hip-hop. RIP Phife

  6. Charlie_Thomas's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

damn...not only did phife suffer from diabetes, but was terminally ill with being a lil bitch

  7. Sarah Pietsch's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Great documentary. Interesting, accessible, informative. And groovy. Although that's probably the wrong word. Funky's not right either. Driving beats, poets like Keats, gonna love it, gotta shove it, movin them feets.

  8. babycakesromero's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

loved the band, loved the film.

  9. Ian Skinner's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Couldn't finish it, I couldn't relate to it in any way. I like the music but this film did not engage me.

  12. Federico Boswarlos's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Marshall Faulk in Phife's top 5 running backs of all time? Good doc but kind of depressing to see how their relationships devolved. Tip needs to just drop Last Zulu, though.

  13. Oliver Page's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Such a great doc for acolytes and newcomers alike. If you have any affection for these voices, these wonderful records, you'll love every minute.

  15. Clayton Wong's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Ali Shaheed Muhammad is the only person who looks good coming out of this. A Tribe Called Quest is undeniable but a part of me wishes I hadn't seen this (very well-made) documentary because Phife and Q-Tip are actual children.

  16. imadeamovie.com's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

  17. msmichel's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Fantastic documentary obviously made by a true fan of the band. A warts and all summation of A Tribe Called Quest's legacy, history and internal implosions. Not reliant on concert footage but more concerned with what the individual band members have to say. Probably the best rap/hip hop doc to come along so far. ...know what i'm sayin....

  18. Malik's rating of the film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest

Loved it. There are still problems though. It does the typical music documentary thing where it seriously delves into the critically acclaimed upon release albums, but then skims over all the other stuff to get to more recent/the present drama. J Dilla only got 2 mentions in the entire doc which is hilarious considering now everyone loves the last two albums and Dilla is now considered one of the greatest ever.
