It's funny because I recorded this movie on a VHS tape when I was a kid and I watched it almost every single day. Yesterday, after many many years, they were showing it on TV and I still remember the lines and everything. Although I would admit now that it's far from perfect, it's impossible for me to hate/criticize this movie because of the many memories it brings back to me <3 I know I'm being way too generous.
If "Beethoven" has one major flaw, it's that the final act delves into territory that's too upsetting for its own good: the movie's villain is played like the Third Reich's veterinarian, and the stakes are literally such that Beethoven might be put to sleep(!). Aside from this uncomfortable bit of business, the film is a perfectly charming family comedy that serves as a valentine to dog lovers everywhere.
