Ratings & Reviews

  1. Paolo Simeone's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Half metacinema, half found footage, almost crap.

  2. yasdnil's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Loved this mockumentary approach to slasher films - it was much like What We Do in the Shadows. However, when it transitioned from documentation to an actual slasher film, it really lost its originality. Ironically, it followed the very formula it intended to roast.

  3. el.'s rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

remember loving it when i first saw it due to its fresh approach to the slasher subgenre. somewhat funny, somewhat even serious, in general it proved to be a film worth watching.

  4. __'s rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

I was surprised how much I liked this. Nathan Baesel's hilarious and tonally perfect performance lifts the whole thing. Clever third act too.

  5. Junda Mane's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

A solid modern slasher, the premise was clever and indeed the highlight.

  6. Lucas Davies's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Another slasher movie movie explaining how slasher movies work. Wow, that sounds like a really fun idea!

  7. João R's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

A fine and nice deconstruction of the slasher genre.

  8. Willow Catelyn's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

The Best Slasher film since Nightmare on Elm Street. As a horror fan this was pure bliss.

  9. nothere's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

Fun and ambitious film that doesn't quite get where it needed to be great but alright.

  10. Edetein's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

The best slasher film since Black Christmas (1974). The sequel is currently being written with everyone from the first film (Director, Writers and Actors) signed up.

  11. Craig B's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

With a bit more thought and technical capability this could've been something on the level of, or actually somewhat better than, what was going on in the Scream films. Apart from its evident (intentional?) cheapness, it has some nifty and intriguing ideas, and in some respects it's perhaps worthy of some considerable analysis all the same.

  12. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

An interesting concept, but not nearly clever enough to make it work. Fails as both a horror film and horror parody. Some potentially funny twists on the slasher genre are executed in the most obvious and overplayed ways possible, the cast is completely obnoxious (Nathan Baesel as the killer is particularly unbearable), and by the end it degenerates into a fairly conventional slasher movie.
