Liked it more than "Wolf of Wall Street". Elgort is proving to be a good actor, and Spacey is pretty much always entertaining. I do wonder if the film would have been marketed more if the Spacey controversy didn't happen. Shame about all that (on many levels). Anyway, I enjoyed this.
A derivative film that adds nothing already achieved by 'Wall Street', 'The Wolf of Wall Street', 'Margin Call', 'The Big Short', 'Boiler Room', 'Inside Job', 'Bonfire of the Vanities', 'American Psycho', 'Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room', 'Arbitrage' and TV show 'Billions'. Also, it's another remake! In addition, $126 first week box-office for the last film Kevin Spacey will be part of for a while.
Post-Goodfellas-morally-ambiguous-narrated-by-a-protagonist things are typically bad, but this is bad even taking into account the incredibly low standards of the dogshit subgenre. NOTHING THAT HAPPENS MAKES SENSE YET IT'S IMBUED WITH A BY THE NUMBERS FILMIC LOGIC. Also a RIDIC flunking of Bechdel test. Version of this story that hits the surrealist-nihilist notes of a movie like Good Time, that'd maybe be watchable.
