Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky, upon which Bitter Harvest is loosely based, is about the intertwined experiences of 3 characters. The film almost completely ignores probably the most sympathetic of the 3, & its moralistic, "Hollywood"-esque ending pales compared w/the ending in the book. Read the book, watch the (far superior) BBC version, & then, if you still have a hankering for a 60s take, watch this.
2 1/2 out of 5 stars. If Butterfield 8 & Breakfast at Tiffany's had a mean-spirited asshole kid in England, Bitter Harvest would be that shitty child. This just okay watch features an increasingly butterfaced Janet Munro and her doormat boyfriend who just mopes around as she whores it up in her quest for fame. I actually kind of cheered whenever she got slapped and seeing Bob & Ella together at the end was good.
