30 hand picked films. A new one every day
Some of the acting is good, story's a bit flat. A few interesting sequences respecting cinematography. And the rest is mediocre.
All you really need to know is that it has Peter Lorre. On top of that it's very stylish and full of surprises.
Lorre's presence is captivating, and the dream/flash back doesn't disappoint. An average film noir, but worth the watch.
Dan Duryea is great in this movie. The rest of the cast is fine but the story was done poorly, should have been a much more interesting than movie than what it was.
amazing dream-flash back scene
It really deserves to be watched, but i felt like something was missing during almost all the film (and I saw it twice!)...Duryea and Lorre filled all the screen!
(3 1/2 stars)
What the hell is this? An anti-booze noir parable, where Dan Duryea plays a good guy and Peter Lorre is a menacing kingpin? Well, so it appears, but watch carefully. The ending's a copout, but Duryea's performance is astonishing throughout.
Pretty good noir gem. Do see it.
Average, but with some interesting travellings à la Hitchcock and Constance Dowling during 10 minutes.
