  2. Bob's rating of the film Black Death

Not so much about Black Death as it is about ideology of morality in rather morally ambiguous tale where tormentors and martyrs continuously exchange positions leaving no room for empathy even though it seems like is trying to evoke an emotion. Unbelievable conclusion comes as a price for creating a strong lead character that can't fit into forced movie plots. Other than that, fun watch of over the top violence.

  4. corycorycorycory's rating of the film Black Death

Give me good costumes, weird magic and weirdo dark tones, and I'm in.

  5. Thomas's rating of the film Black Death

  6. Mugino's rating of the film Black Death

Classifying films by genre detracts from a film like this. The ignorance of the times give faith currency and permits the supernatural. This could have been horror, historical drama, fantasy, action/adventure, anything really. It's this platform that is so rife with possibility that makes each step of the quest so tenuous and riddled with doubt. Sure the ending could have been better, but the potential is there.

  7. msmichel's rating of the film Black Death

Graphic violent little thriller set in 13th century England during the plague. Christopher Smith's best so far (though thats not really saying much). Disappointing in its end result though well put together. Good performances by Carice van Houten, John Lynch and Sean Bean (who could do this kind of role in his sleep). Next time out hopefully Smith and company will spend a little extra time on a script.

  8. Cody Hoskins's rating of the film Black Death

This was a very unique horror device to take a dark period from the Middle Ages and craft it into something along the lines of The Wicker Man and Apocalypse Now with nothing strictly Hollywood-esque to follow. The acting was so raw and gritty, the tone was ominous and mysterious, and the thematic meanings were so ambiguous and haunting to live by and wonder about the meaning of darkness in a God-forsaken world.

  9. a Smith's rating of the film Black Death

The ritualization of murder as a symptom of persecution and otherness.

  10. Igor Leoni's rating of the film Black Death

Solid cast with an encouraging and mysterious set up. Too bad the second half doesn't live up to the first.

  11. Effendi Ben Smith-Malick's rating of the film Black Death

Hey people who made this movie. Next time you have this much money to blow on shit, can you just give it to me instead? I got student loans.

  12. FCC 86's rating of the film Black Death

"I am Death. Vengeance is mine! God's fury rains down on you!"

  13. Yass's rating of the film Black Death

Au dela de ce titre merdique se cache un bon petit film bien cradecore comme savent nous en régaler les angliches, bien poussé dans son délire, et bien réaliste/étrange en flirtant avec le fantastique sans trop pousser les couillonades.

  14. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Black Death

It gets off to an awkward start with some clumsy writing, but improves considerably in the second half as it ratchets up the tension and suspense. Well-done period atmosphere and strong performances, particularly from the very underrated Carice van Houten. Despite its flaws, an entertaining piece of work.

  15. remote-viewer's rating of the film Black Death

I actually don't mind its barbaric pulpiness (I'm a sucker for vaguely fantastical grimdark medieval shit about pagans and witches and necromancers), and all the allusions to Herzog-style journey (even a character resembling Kinski), The Seventh Seal, and The Wicker Man are fun, but along the way it loses something and squanders all this on stupidity. The ending is especially dumb. Too bad.

  16. Tony Pauletto's rating of the film Black Death

The story certainly weaved into some surprising commentary, but it's unsophisticated pulpiness undermines the intent.

  17. comeandsee's rating of the film Black Death

could so easily been a masterpiece, but the ending is utterly terrible, and the beginning has some clunky pacing, but otherwise excellent. sean bean could never be anything but super with this role. the real star is carice van houten, with her striking deliveries, and bleached features. i felt that the film only really hit it's peak with her on screen. oh, and visually stunning in addition.

  18. Risya's rating of the film Black Death

It's always interesting too see a movie that sets during the period of Middle Ages. This is not a very strong movie but quite interesting for the plot, well-acted, decent pace, and has a few twists. What makes it good is that it's nicely convey the feel of the Medieval period, brutal and violent.

  19. profondo_rosso's rating of the film Black Death

some decent performances....but i had looked forward to this movie so much, and was a bit let down by the end result...

  20. Dusty Kram Kram's rating of the film Black Death

Totally watchable, but squandered every good idea it had. The script could have used a couple more drafts. Good performances. Well shot. Worth a look, but prepare to be frustrated.

  21. Stephen Campbell's rating of the film Black Death

Chris Smith is fast becoming a director of choice in the Campbell Household and this film shows why
