Our take

Mario Bava’s debut feature is one of the defining works in the gothic canon, and almost single-handedly inaugurated the golden age of Italian horror. A tale of witchcraft and demonic resurrection shot in luminous black-and-white, Black Sunday made an icon of its star: scream queen Barbara Steele.
