The spirits of The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction collide in this slow-paced, melancholy indie drama from first-timer Lance Edmands. Raw performances, calm cinematography, and a quiet, meandering score. An impressive debut. Wonderful to see "regional" cinema getting popular.
So beautifully photographed and incredibly nuanced. Bluebird unfolds in a gentle unassuming manner, inviting the viewer into a struggling working class community all too aware of each others flaws but making do with what they have. Achingly sad. 4 stars
Beautifully sad.. an emotional feature. It's one of those indies that doesn't mess with your tear ducts, but hits you hard. Instantly letting you feel the gravity of its characters emotions without making a wreck out of you. Its remarkable performances makes up for the story's short runtime. Here's a story about a grave yet honest mistake, an incident that can happen to anyone, a drama we can all reflect on.
