Boys Town is a film classic based on the true story of Father Flanagan, a Catholic priest who established a community in Omaha, Nebraska for troubled youths. The film stars Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney as the young Whitey Marsh.

Oscar winner for script and best actor (Spencer Tracy) in '38 stands the test of time pretty well. The story of Father Flanagan is an inspirational one and even the over-acting of a young Mickey Rooney can't stop this from being effective and moving.
A touching grab at the heartstrings film starring the great Tracy. The film reminds of Dead End with a religious element. Rooney pretty much overacts throughout the entire film though and generally louses up the proceedings, which is odd because hes usually flawless. Kept it from being classic status for me. As it is, just 3 stars
