Our take

If you only know the 80s remake, you’re missing out on a delightful screwball comedy. Directed with typically affable, thrifty, dynamic aplomb by epoch-spanning director Allan Dwan, who sought to divert WWII audiences with such delightful froth, it remains a charmer.
