A friend talked me into watching it, since it would not appear to be in my wheelhouse. I absolutely hated the monster of the week, but I liked the big bad each season, and I thought it was funny. The peak was 'Once More With Feeling', which I memorized. Buffy is a donut hole around all the interesting characters. My favorite was Spike.
It has a lot of problems but it was fucking awesome! One of my favorites as a kid/teenager and continues to be. I lost count how many times I rewatched it. Hush, the silent episode, for me, it's a masterpiece. Just for saying: the Bojack silent episode it's a masterpiece too, and I don't even care for silent movies. The only think that I really don't like about Buffy is that is not on Netflix anymore.
this is the perfect tv series, in all its flawed glory. most high budget "prestige" shows don't have a fraction of its heart, humour and richness. a perfect case study on subverting tropes and filling a seemingly superficial sci-fi teen drama with intelligent references and great characters."the body" is probably the best episode about death in any tv show I have watched.read Emily nussbaum's pieces about it
