Our take

Otto Preminger may have beaten Hitchcock at his own game with this calculated and unpredictable thriller, filled to the brim with anxiety and dread. An earthbound Keir Dullea (2001) provides one of the most inspired performances in ’60s cinema. Bonus: look out for British rock group The Zombies!
