  1. dionysus67's rating of the film Byzance

Another great short by Pialat, this time about the siege of Constantinople and its fall to the Ottoman rule. Shot in b/w its focus is more on the churches, the walls, and the 'kerkoporta' which proved the empire's Achilles Heel. With emphasis on Europe's ill-thought-out tactics and eventual indifference, the carnage is portrayed synecdochically with images of skinned and stray animals. Melancholic and serene.
