A bright sunlit portrait of neo-apocalyptic rural America where our protagonist routinely plies his trade of dispensing insecticide. The characters he encounters are so real it feels like a documentary but the nostalgia of his lost love provides a dramatic counterpoint. Mad Max imagery is also perfectly conceived and the sparse soundtrack is equally haunting. A stunning film that is as stark as it is foreboding.
Ein hervorragender, intensiver und dabei sehr komplexer und beunruhigender Film. Tolle Regie, faszinierende Orte und Menschen/Figuren, die von Verlorenheit, Einsamkeit, Verlassenheit erzählen. / An excellent, complex, intensive and creepy film. Great direction, fascinating places and people/figures who tell about loneliness and desertedness.
A deep insight into the consequences of a thoughtless and irresponsible lifestyle, but also - through the narrator - into the American self-conception. Something like: "Take off and let the ruins of your life behind you, no matter what others have to do to cope with them."
